Fifth arrest for alleged witness intimidation
Earlier this month, October 8, GNBCI officers arrested four persons in relation to the same investigation.
Gardaí investigating allegations of witness intimidation, perverting the course of justice and the unlawful use of mobile phones in the prison environment, related to the recent criminal trial of DPP versus Aaron Brady have arrested a fifth person.
Today, Monday, October 19, Detective Gardaí attached to the Serious Crime Review Team in the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) arrested the person who is currently being detained at the Bridewell Garda Station, Dublin.
They are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Earlier this month, October 8, GNBCI officers arrested four persons in relation to the same investigation.
Those arrested were also detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in Mountjoy, Ballymun, Bridewell and Raheny Garda Stations respectively.
All four persons were subsequently released without charge at a later date.
“Investigations are ongoing,” a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana confirmed in relation to the latest arrest.
Last week, Aaron Brady (29) from New Road in Crossmaglen, sentenced in the Central Criminal Court to life in prison for the capital murder of Kilnaleck-native Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.
Brady must serve a minimum term of imprisonment of 40 years.
Brady was also sentenced to 14 years for robbery, a sentence that will run concurrently with the life sentence.
Brady was found guilty last month of involvement in the robbery of €7,000 at the Credit Union by an 11 to one majority jury verdict following trial.
Det Gda Donohoe was on active duty when he was shot during a raid on Lordship Credit Union in County Louth in January 2013.
