A Virginia teenager who required extensive surgery after gashing his arm on discarded broken glass is understood to be “recovering well”.

The young man was out walking at Virginia Forest with siblings over the Bank Holiday Weekend when he slipped on mud and fell onto leaves, under which was a lump of broken glass.

Suffering extensive injuries to his left arm, the teen was transported first to Cavan General Hospital, before then being transferred to Temple Street Childrens Hospital for Plastics Surgery.

Virginia Tidy Towns have been actively asking the public for assistance in helping to continue to clean up the local area, and stated that the boy's mum asked for details of the situation to be published in the “hope that it may deter others from throwing their rubbish and to prevent another young innocent from getting hurt and perhaps encourage others to be more involved in their community.”
