Cavan schools get almost €900K in ICT grants

Eighty seven schools in County Cavan are set to receive almost €900,000 in technology grants from the Department of Education.

Minister for Rural Affairs, Heather Humphreys, confirmed the allocations to The Anglo-Celt this morning.

In total, €529,419 will be invested in primary schools in the county, while €353,995 will go to post primary schools.

The funding will be used for to support the development of digital technologies, which will have huge benefits for our pupils.

“The Government has invested heavily in supporting and development technology in our schools and this investment is part of a €50 million fund nationwide signed off on by my cabinet colleague, Education Minister Norma Foley," Deputy Humphreys said.

“We must continue to support and invest in opportunities for our young people to improve their digital skills as we embrace the digital technology," she added.

This funding is the final tranche of the overall package of funding (€210m) for ICT infrastructure as provided for under the Digital Strategy for Schools 2015-2020. Some €160m has already issued, including €50m issued earlier this year in respect of the 2019-2020 school year. These grants will issue automatically to all schools during the first week in December.
