Drive-in Carol service this Sunday

The guidelines may well state that singing in churches or choirs is not recommended due to Coronavirus concerns but a Cavan church has found a way to allow people to enjoy a carol service together, while staying safe, writes Gemma Good.

The Cavan Baptist Church is hosting a 'Drive In' Carol Service this Sunday, December 20, at 4pm.

The carol service will be held behind the Cavan Pet Shop on the Ballinagh Road with no registration required.

Pastor of the Cavan Baptist Church, Ivan Watson, said: “Everybody is welcome just to turn up on the afternoon.”

Attendees of the event will be guided to a parking space. Ivan urges people to stay in their cars in order to comply with current COVID-19 guidelines.

Carols and readings will be performed on a stage. All participants will be socially distanced. The event will be live streamed on Facebook to allow those attending to listen in from the safety of their cars.

“We did think about just doing it online.

“But we thought that it’d be really nice to actually give people an opportunity to come together and see one another albeit over in the next car,” said the pastor.

Ivan is looking forward to a Christmas Carol service “in a different way but in a safe way.”

He also emphasises that the carol service is for everybody not just people who attend the church.

“We’re running it for the whole community. It’s a free event and everybody is really welcome to come,” he said.

You can visit the Cavan Baptist Church Facebook page for more information on the event.

The Cavan Baptist Church also has free 2021 calendars and Christmas books available in Crubany.
