Taskforce intervenes in mobile coverage issues

The Mobile Phone and Broadband Taskforce has completed over 70 targeted actions to alleviate mobile connectivity problems in rural areas, including in counties Cavan and Monaghan.

That’s according to the Department for the Environment, Climate and Communications in response to a question tabled recently by local Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith.

Deputy Smith asked if the Minister had “discussions with telecommunications providers and the communications regulator on the need to improve mobile telephone coverage in different parts of the country”.

The response stated that providing such services is a matter for service providers operating in a fully liberalised market regulated by the Commission for Communication Regulation (ComReg), as independent regulator.

The Minister added that the Taskforce will continue its work ensuring “access to high quality telecommunications connectivity across Ireland to support social and economic development”.
