Vaccines to begin in Cavan from tomorrow

The HSE say the programme will be rolled out in stages

The HSE has confirmed that two Cavan care centres will be part of the vaccination programme administering 35,000 inoculations by the end of the week.

In the statement the HSE said: “Last week we distributed 1,950 vaccines to four hospitals and a further 1,950 vaccines were distributed this weekend within the South/South West Hospitals Group.”

The vaccinations will take place this week in 23 residential care facilities across Ireland. Two Cavan facilities have been identified in the first phase of the programme.

The HSE say the programme will be rolled out in stages: “By the end of this week we intend to have administered 35,000 vaccines. We will be holding some stock until our next delivery and then we plan to continue the process the following week.

“This will be done, aligned with further and ongoing deliveries of the vaccine, over a six week rolling programme throughout all 582 nursing homes, public and private, across the State. Our vaccinator teams will be giving vaccines at each of those locations, making two separate visits, three weeks apart.”

It has previously been reported that Esker Lodge Nursing Home, Cavan and Breffni Care Centre for Older Persons, Ballyconnell, are pencilled in to have their first vaccination this Thursday (January 7).

They will be followed up next week by: Lisdarn Unit for the Elderly, Dr Jack Sullivan Memorial Home, Virginia Community Health Centre, St Joseph’s Nursing Home Cavan, College View Nursing Home, Fairlawn’s Nursing Home, Oak View Nursing Home and Sheelin Nursing Home.
