3,600 premises connected to NBI network in Cootehill

There are 17,000 premises in the Co Cavan Intervention Area.

The National broadband rollout is nearing completion in Cootehill meaning 3,600 homes, farms and businesses can connect to fibre broadband on the National Broadband Ireland network this year.

This latest development also indicates that just over 16,500 homes, businesses and farms across Cavan and Monaghan can now access high-speed connectivity.

In Co Cavan, there are 17,000 premises in the Intervention Area (IA) while there are 16,000 premises in the IA in Co Monaghan. Under the National Broadband Plan, Co Cavan will see an investment of €65M and County Monaghan, €60M in the new high speed fibre network.

Construction works are underway to connect 2,037 premises in Cavan and 1,529 premises in Monaghan - all of which is included in NBI’s Cootehill deployment area. Broadband on NBI’s high-speed network is expected to become available between October and December this year.

National Broadband Ireland says works have already been completed to ensure 6,761 premises in Cavan and 9,899 premises in Monaghan can order or pre-order high-speed, reliable broadband.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said the progress to date will enable users to experience “life-changing benefits” from high-speed broadband provision”.

“Almost 16,500 homes, businesses and farms are ready to connect across Cavan and Monaghan,” he continued. “These include areas surrounding Cavan town, Carrickmacross, Clones, Emyvale, Kilnaleck and Monaghan town.

“We would encourage people living in those areas to visit www.nbi.ie to see if they can place an order for a high-speed connection on the NBI network.”

Elsewhere, as a wholesale network operator, NBI does not sell fibre broadband directly to customers but enables services from a range of broadband providers or Retail Service Providers (RSPs). As a wholesale provider, NBI will make the new fibre-to-the-Home network available to all RSPs operating in the Intervention Areas.
