It is with regret that we note the deaths in our community over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie

John James Hamilton

Batterstown, Meath / Dundrum, Dublin / Cavan

Hamilton, John James (late of Batterstown, Meath and Dundrum, Dublin, and formerly of Aghacreevy, Ballyheelan, Cavan) 5th January 2021 peacefully at home after a short illness surrounded by his loving family. Beloved and loving husband of Hazel, much loved by his sons Charlie, Derek and Gary, daughters-in-law Carrie, Heather and Helen and his cherished grandchildren Robyn, Ben, Alex, Max, Lauren, James and Ellie. Predeceased by Mary and Freeman, he will be sadly missed by his sisters Betty and Pam, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, relatives and friends.

The family wish to thank everyone for their kind support at this sad time. Due to current Covid restrictions, a private funeral will take place in line with government guidelines regarding public gatherings. You are welcome to leave a personal message in the section below marked condolences.

Mulligan, Hugh (Navan Road, Dublin and formerly of Arva, County Cavan) – January 5th. 2021 (peacefully) in the loving care of all the staff of St. Gabriel’s Nursing Home, Raheny; loving companion of the late Nancy. Sadly missed by Myra, Robert, Daniel, Helen, Sibéal, his sister Sr. Imelda, brother Joe, extended family, relatives and friends.

Joseph (Joe) Watters

4 Townparks, Ballyhaise, Cavan

Joseph (Joe) Watters, 4 Townparks, Ballyhaise, Co Cavan, Wednesday January 6th, peacefully at home in the loving care of his family. Predeceased by his daughters in law, Eileen & Edith. Beloved husband of Ann & devoted father of Mattie, Marie, Martin, Catherine, Bernie (England), Maggie & Sandra (England). Sadly missed by his loving family, sons in law John Joe, Dermot, Paul & Andy, his adored 13 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, his good neighbours Gerry Quinn & the Donohoe family, all his relatives & many, many friends.

May he Rest in Peace.

Due to current Government & HSE guidelines regarding public gatherings, Joe's funeral Mass & cremation will be private to family only & limited to 10 people.

Joe's remains will leave his home on Friday morning at 10.30 to travel to St Mary's Church, Ballyhaise, arriving for funeral Mass at 11 o’clock after which he will travel to Lakelands Crematorium, via his home & the Castletara Rd, for a private cremation. Anyone wishing to pay their respects by standing along the route are welcome to do so but are asked to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

The Watters family would like to thank you all for your cooperation & understanding at this time. Family flowers only please, donations in lieu, if desired, to the Palliative Care unit, Cavan General Hospital c/o Mc Mahon Funeral Directors, Farnham Rd, Cavan or any family member. Brendan Macklin

No. 40, Loch Mor Avenue, Ballybay, Monaghan

The death has occurred of Brendan Macklin, No. 40 Loch Mor Avenue. Ballybay, Co. Monaghan and Former lead singer of the Unicorns, Wednesday January 6th peacefully at Cavan general hospital.

Deeply regretted and remembered with love by his wife Peggy, daughters Brenda and Leona, sons Damien, Kevin, Enda, Kieran and Barry, grandchildren Shannon, Jamie, Sarah, Ciara, Lucy and Emily, uncle Packie, aunt Kathleen, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends.

Brendan’s funeral cortège will travel from Wards Funeral Home, Ballybay on Friday morning at 10:40 am, proceeding on foot to arrive at St Patrick’s Church, Ballybay for Funeral Mass at 11am, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Funeral Mass will be live streamed on the link below

Margaret Lewis (née Gormley)

Ballygawley, Tyrone / Monaghan Town, Monaghan

Lewis Margaret, formerly of Riverside Monaghan, Wilmslow Cheshire and Greenhill Ballygawley. Peacefully at Glenview Nursing Home, January 6th 2021. Dearly beloved sister of Harry, the late Owen and her late twin sister Mary (West). Funeral will be arriving at St Malachys Church, Ballymacilroy on Thursday 7th for 7pm Mass. Requiem Mass is on Friday 8th January at 11am. Interment afterwards in adjoining cemetery. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on her soul.

Very deeply regretted by her sorrowing brother, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and family circle.

Sadly, due to current restrictions the funeral is private.

Maura McKenna (née Hoban)

Emy, Emyvale, Monaghan / Mayo

The death has occurred of Maura McKenna (nee Hoban) in her 96th year, The Bungalow, Emy, Emyvale, Co Monaghan and formerly Corha, Rahins, Co Mayo. Tuesday 5th January, peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Maura is pre-deceased by her loving husband Mick McKenna (Ballagh), sisters Nora Lyons, Sr. Margaret Hoban, Helen Murphy & Sarah Brogan, her brother John and son in law Dick Kiernan.

May her gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Maura will be deeply regretted by her sons Patrick (Corinne Garcia), John, Vincent (Susan Ryan), Gerard (Annie Quinn), daughters Monica Earley (Noel), Bernadette, Norah Ryan, Margaret Kiernan, sisters, Ann Heffernan, Kitty Hoban, Sr. Paul Hoban & Josie Jennings, sister in law Margaret Deery, 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Brendan McKenna

Main Street, Glaslough, Monaghan

The death has occurred of Brendan Mc Kenna, Main Street, Glaslough, Co.Monaghan, Wednesday 6th of January, peacefully at Cavan General Hospital. Pre-deceased by his wife Mae and sister Anita Skeath.

May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Sadly missed by his beloved wife Irene and his loving sons and daughters, Kevin, Gillian, Brenda & Richard, brothers, Sean, Aiden, Martin & Gregory, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Brendan's remains will leave his residence on Saturday morning at 11.30am to arrive at St Mary's Church, Glennan for 12pm funeral Mass. Burial afterwards in Drumbannagher Cemetery.

Please note, due to ongoing restrictions, Brendan's wake, funeral & burial will be strictly private. Should you wish to pay your respects, you are welcome to do so as Brendan's funeral cortège makes its way to St. Mary's Church, Glennan, via Wrights Bar.
