Thanks to Jo Holden for sending in this breath taking photo of sunrise this morning near Shercock.

Chilly with patchy rain

Frost and some fog patches will be slow to clear with cloud increasing during the morning, according to Met Éireann. Patchy rain and drizzle may develop at times, however a spell of heavier and more persistent rain will reach Atlantic coastal counties by evening. Rain is expected to arrive in Cavan at around 7pm and become quite heavy from 9pm.

Highest afternoon temperatures of just 3 to 5 degrees, with southerly winds increase fresh to strong and gusty.

Tonight will be wet and windy with rain becoming widespread and heavy at times, bringing the risk of localised flooding. Clear spells and showers will follow from the west as the rain clears east towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in fresh to occasionally strong and gusty southerly winds, veering westerly as the rain clears.

Tomorrow

Cooler with sunny spells and scattered blustery showers on Saturday. Afternoon highs of 6 to 8 degrees in fresh west to northwest winds.
