Officers patrolling last week detected a car travelling at 140kmph in a 100kmph limit on the N3 near Butlersbridge. It was soon established the driver under the influence of alcohol and a quick check on the Mobility App discovered he was also disqualified. “He was subsequently arrested and charged to Court and the car detained and taken off the road.”

In a separate incident, gardaí in the Bailieborough area carrying out a checkpoint under Operation Fanacht stopped a car with the road tax expired.

The driver also failed the roadside drug test, testing positive for both cocaine and cannabis and was arrested and a blood sample taken.

It further transpired that the same driver was making what is now considered a non-essential journey. “He now has Court to follow and a Fixed Payment Notice for breach of the public health guidelines.”
