Fascinating 1989 footage emerges

Fascinating footage has emerged from an RTE TV show in 1989 previewing Cavan’s Ulster Senior Football Championship clash with Donegal.

The 13-minute clip is presented by Michael Lyster and features interviews with Ronan Carolan and his father Paddy, Eugene McGee, Gabriel Kelly, Jim Reilly, John Brady and Stephen King as well as a number of Donegal stars including Anthony Molloy.

The RTE cameras visited the Cavan camp as well as St Pat’s College in Drumcondra, where Ronan Carolan was then studying.

Despite the upbeat mood in the clips, Cavan eventually lost the match by 3-11 to 0-14, with Carolan scoring 0-8 of Cavan’s tally.
