Another cold day ahead with rain and some wintry showers

Weather Update

The weather forecast for today says it will be cloudy with further outbreaks of rain, turning wintry at times especially over higher ground. Cold with afternoon temperatures of between 2 and 5 degrees, according to the latest bulletin from Met Éireann. Moderate southeast breezes, fresh on northern coasts.

Heavy rain will extend across the province overnight, with wintry falls over higher ground. Fresh southeasterly winds and lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is set to be a breezy day with rain clearing to frequent blustery showers. Some of the showers may be thundery with hail. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees and fresh southwesterly winds.

The weather will continue unsettled with wet and breezy conditions.

Outbreaks of rain will continue on Tuesday night, mainly over the west and north with showers and clear spells elsewhere. Windy, especially near western and southern coasts with strong and gusty southwest winds, easing towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.

Outbreaks of rain will continue to affect northern and western parts on Wednesday. It will be drier further south and east earlier in the day, with some sunshine, but rain will become widespread later. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh mainly south to southwest winds.

Rain or showers continuing overnight on Wednesday, mainly in the northern half of the country with clear spells developing further south. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees, in the light to moderate southerly breezes.

Thursday is expected to bring a mix of bright or sunny spells and showers. The showers will be mainly in the west at first, but they will spread elsewhere during the afternoon, with a risk of hail. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, coldest in Ulster in light to moderate southerly breezes.

Showers continuing overnight on Thursday with lowest temperatures of 2 to 4 degrees in light or moderate southwest breezes.

Looking ahead to Friday and the weekend, it is expected to turn cooler as a northerly airflow moves in over the country. Scattered showers persisting through Friday, although sunny spells will occur also. Current indications suggest it will be drier on Saturday.
