Maudabawn artist presents painting to Cavan General

A copy of a painting of two frontline medics comforting each other, has been presented to the front line staff at Cavan General Hospital.

The painting by Adam Crowe from Maudabawn, which has gone viral online, evokes many emotions at a time when frontline healthcare workers and society in general continue to battle the Coronavirus.

It has now grabbed attention all over America, South Africa, Australia and Europe, as well as Ireland and Britain.

The two people who feature in the painting are Certified Nurse Anaesthesiologists (CNAs) Ben and Mindy Cayer who work in the Tampa General Hospital in Florida. Little did they think when the photo was captured that they would later be holding a painting of the image by a talented young artist in Cavan.

The couple are delighted with Adam’s artistic creation and it will find pride of place in the Tampa Hospital.

A print is now also front of house in Cavan General Hospital. The special gift to the hospital front line workers was accepted by the general manager of the Cavan Monaghan Hospital Group, David Lynch and the director of nursing, Caroline Keyes.

Mr Lynch said the painting had “touched the hearts and minds of many people – health care workers and non-health care workers. It tells a serious story and it is a beautiful piece of work.”

He added: “I have a feeling this COVID-19 will be here for a while. Everyone wants to see a return to normality.”

Ms Keyes said Adam Crowe timed the presentation of his painting very well.

“The staff are overwhelmed, exhausted, tired – his painting is very apt to what the staff here are facing on a daily basis. It will be a daily reminder of what staff go through each day,” she remarked.

Adam Crowe told the Celt he was delighted to have the opportunity to hand over a print to the Cavan General staff.

“It is my way of saying a big thank you, for all their hard work on the frontline. I am extremely happy that they loved the painting.

He added: “It will be something for the nurses and all the staff to look at and remind them that people are thinking of them.”

Since the painting has gone viral online, Adam has been inundated with people contacting him from all over the world.
