Council approves Arts Awards recipients

Cavan County Council's 2021 art supports grants recipients moved one step closer to funding as councillors approved the list drawn up by the executive. At the February meeting of the authority members approved the recommendations for the Arts Awards for the coming year. The programmes encourages developing, emerging and professional artists.

The Arts Awards by Cavan County Council are allocated under the Arts Act 2003. The Arts Development Award will go to organisations, groups or individuals running arts events and projects in County Cavan or promoting the County arts offerings elsewhere are encouraged to apply for this seed funding. Grants will vary from €200 to €1,500.

Under the 'Professional Artists Awards' professional artists from all disciplines are eligible for the scheme. Applicants must be originally from County Cavan, reside in the County or artists whose proposed work has a significant Cavan element. This fund is supported by the Arts Council.

In the 'Emerging Artist Award' the award supports an artist developing their career; it is aimed towards someone who has specialised training in his or her field (not necessarily gained in an academic institution) and who has created a modest independent body of work.

The recommendations were adopted by the council after nomination by Cllr John Paul Feeley (FF) and seconding by Madeline Argue (FG). The award recipients have yet to be formally announced by the authority.
