Kyle’s birthday gift to the homeless

Kind Nobber youngster’s gesture as he raises €1,500 to provide hot meals for rough sleepers in Dublin

A KINDHEARTED little boy from Nobber who donated his birthday money to a homeless charity says that “he wants to make the poor rich.”

While other six-year-olds ask for birthday presents selfless Kyle Cunningham decided to donate all of the money he received for the occasion to ‘Help our Homeless,’ a non-profit organisation that provides hot meals, clothing and sanitary products to rough sleepers in Dublin.

The sensitive youngster who is a senior infants student in Scoil Eoin Báiste in Nobber came up with the idea after seeing a number of TV ads and pictures depicting those less unfortunate that upset him.

He had intended to just donate his birthday money but a GoFundMe page has been set up since that has amassed an incredible €1,500.

Kyle’s mum, Bridget is so proud of her son, saying: “He’s such a lovely, kind young man.

“He had seen different ads and a Trocaire Box in his Nana’s and that was the start of it a year or two ago.

“He was so upset by the ads he said I want to use my birthday money and help make the poor rich.

“Especially in the snow and windy nights and when he’d lie into the bed he’d be thinking of the people who are outside with no homes to go to.

“Even the night of his birthday after doing so much he went to bed upset thinking about the homeless and the poor and is just forever thinking of them.

“I know if I saw something upsetting it would really affect me, I’m involved with Nobber Cancer Support and we’d always be helping out with something I suppose he’s just a soft little soul, a kind little fella.

“He wanted to give his pocket money and birthday money which would have come to a couple of hundred now it’s up to about €1500 in total.”

Bridget also mum to Caoimhe (11), and PJ (3), says that her little boy is getting huge support from the local community. She added:

“He is just delighted he raised that amount including his birthday money in about five days and people were putting notes in the door and saying how good he is and would say to him you are just amazing for a little boy.”

Sonia Nesbitt who set up ‘Help our Homeless’ commented that:

“Kyle has a heart of gold and when he grows up he is going to make such a difference to this world.

“He is absolutely amazing. The money will go towards sleeping bags, tents and sanitary products for the homeless in Dublin and it will make such a difference.”
