Virtual events for adult learners

Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board has launched a range of virtual events to celebrate Adult Learners’ Week 2021.

The 15th annual AONTAS Adult Learners’ Festival will take place from March 1-5, 2021.

While CMETB Adult Education Services usually encourage adults in Cavan and Monaghan to physically attend free open days, events, classes and workshops throughout the two counties; this year it will look a little different as the education and training board adapts to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions in place.

CMETB Adult Education Service is delivering a number of virtual events in the areas of Mindfulness, Flower Arranging & Gardening, Genealogy, Beauty, Cookery, Arts & Crafts, Coping with Stress, Italian Language & Culture, Exercise and Online Learning.

There will also be guidance and information sessions from the Adult Education Guidance & Information Service.

The aim of this year’s virtual event is to deliver a strong message of hope within Ireland’s Adult Learning sector and promote the importance of educational equality and mitigating educational disadvantage in a time of COVID-19.

The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Building Back Better Together - #BetterTogether’.

Deirdre Byrne, CMETB adult education officer, said: “While we can’t come together for our usual in-person events, we are excited to deliver an exciting calendar of virtual events and opportunities for adults to engage with a taster of our services online.”

Throughout the year, CMETB Adult Education Service runs courses in Childcare, Beauty, Gardening, IT, Cookery, Business, Woodcraft, Literacy, Maths, IT, Construction, Healthcare etc on a part-time basis.
