Free delivery from pharmacy

Conscious of the fact that many older and vulnerable people can find it difficult to get to the doctors to collect a prescription and then on to the pharmacy to pick up the medication, especially with the current COVID-19 restrictions, Brian O’Donoghue, pharmacist and owner of O’Donoghue’s totalhealth Pharmacy in Virginia offers a free medication delivery service. He has a dedicated team in the pharmacy, led by pharmacist Joy Jameson, to manage this service, which was launched last year.

“We have a number of patients who have availed of this free medication delivery service and they think it is just great, it takes away the fear of them having to leave their house to get their medication. And there are also many who cannot leave the house because they are caring for a vulnerable family member, so we take that worry away from them too," said Mr O'Donoghue.

Joy Jameson, pharmacist, added: “It is a very simple process for anybody who wants the service. All they have to do is to agree with their doctor that we can collect their prescription. We then prepare the medication and I, or one of the team, delivers it to their door in a van with our name on it, so that they can recognise us and don’t mind opening the door. We can also explain to them what the medication is and advise them, if they need it, on how to take it. Our team also are a friendly face to many people who do not see many others during the week.”

The free medicines delivery service from O’Donoghue’s totalhealth Pharmacy, Virginia, is available to anybody who needs it. They deliver to a wide area in south Cavan including Virginia, Lisduff, Maghera, Billis, Upper Lavey, Mullagh and into Oldcastle. To register for the service, phone the team on 049-8547046 and they will explain the process and arrange to deliver your medication for free.
