Cavan Community Games launch virtual competitions

Sport

As we continue to live with Covid, Community Games have launched their first programme of events for 2021. These virtual events are for varying age categories from U8 up to U16 and include the following:

- solo music

- solo dance

- solo recitation

- solo singing

- art

- handwriting

- model making.

It is important to note that children must reside in an active Community Games area in order to take part.

The AGM of Cavan Community Games took place recently via Zoom after the strange year that 2020 was. Many people across the county who would have taken part in Community Games over the last 40 years will recognise committee member names such as Clifford Kelly, Marie Smith (both Kingscourt), Rosemary O'Reilly, Abby Brady (both Erne Valley) and more recently Christy Quinn (St Pat's), Clare O'Reilly and Brian O'Reilly (Lurgan).

Between them, Clifford, Marie and Rosemary have served over 100 years in prominent committee positions for the county, along with many years of involvement before taking up these positions.

Rosemary became county secretary in 1979, a role which she continued in for 35 years. Some years later, she was joined on the committee by Marie Smith as treasurer and Clifford Kelly as chairperson. Marie stood down after 2019 and Clifford became the last of the trio to depart as he stepped down as chairperson for the coming year.

Cavan Community Games are deeply indebted to all three for their lifetime commitment to the association. All three have deservedly been made honorary presidents of Cavan Community Games.

Whilst most committee positions have been filled, Cavan Community Games are eager to find someone that would be interested in taking up the positions of PRO and Games Director.

They would also love to welcome new or returning areas to come on board for 2021 and give more of our youth a chance to take part in these virtual events. If you are interested in any of the above or require further information please email cavan@communitygames.eu or visit www.mycommunitygames.com. Cavan Community Games Facebook page will also be launched in the coming days, so updates will be posted there on a regular basis.
