Cavan's Covid rate ahead of national average but falling

No additional deaths related to COVID-19 are being reported this evening by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).

However, the centre has been notified of 394 confirmed cases of the virus up to midnight on Sunday, April 11. Seven of those cases are in County Cavan, while less than five are in County Monaghan.

It translates to a five-day rolling average of seven cases per day in the Breffni County and five cases per day in neighbouring County Monaghan.

In the previous fortnight, there have been 118 positive test results in County Cavan and 70 in County Monaghan. Cavan has a 14-day incidence rate of 154.9 cases per 100,000 of population; while Monaghan's rate is 114/100K. The national average is 131.9 cases per 100,000 of population.

To date, there have been a total of a total of 241,330 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland; while sadly 4,785 people have lost their lives, reportedly related to the virus.

Of the new cases notified today:

- 179 are men / 214 are women

- 75% are under 45 years of age

- The median age is 33 years old

- There have been 175 positive tests in Dublin, 34 in Kildare, 21 in Galway, 21 in Mayo, 20 in Limerick and the remaining 123 cases are spread across 18 other counties.

As of 8am today, 227 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, 50 of whom are in ICU. There have been 22 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

As of April 10, 1,058,394 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Ireland:

- 745,363 people have received their first dose

- 313,031 people have received their second dose
