Fire brought under control at recycling centre

Fire fighters brought a blaze at Corranure recycling plant under control yesterday afternoon.

Fire Service teams from both Cavan town and Belturbet stations arrived to what was described as an "industrial fire" at the site at approximately 3pm.

Footage and photos captured by fire fighters at the scene on the Cootehill Road, on the outskirts of Cavan Town, suggest the blaze was centred at the covered shed section.

Belturbet Fire Service explained that compressed air foam system was used to get the fire under control, while the outer cordon was dampened down using high-pressure hose reels to ensure fire did not spread to other areas.

The award winning recycling plant is operated by McElvaneys.
