No new Covid cases in Cavan reported in latest briefing

There have been 381 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 nationally confirmed this afternoon in the daily update from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).

Thankfully, no further deaths are being reported in the figures, which are valid up to midnight on Sunday, May 9.

There have been no new cases reported in County Cavan and five in neighbouring County Monaghan. Counties Longford, Leitrim and Sligo are also reporting no new cases of the virus today.

The five-day rolling average of cases in Cavan is now running at six cases per day, the same rate as pertains in County Monaghan.

The incidence rate of the virus nationally is running at 129 cases per 100,000 of population. In Cavan, the prevalence rate is 137.8/100K, while in Monaghan it is 114/100K of population.

There has been a total of 4,921 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland since the virus was first confirmed here on February 29, 2020, during which time there have been over a quarter of a million confirmed cases.

Of the cases notified today:

- 192 are men / 188 are women

- 77% are under 45 years of age

- The median age is 31 years old

- There were 188 confirmed new cases in Dublin, 39 in Donegal, 30 in Kildare, 13 in Limerick, 13 in Cork, 13 in Tipperary, 13 in Westmeath and the remaining 72 cases are spread across 15 other counties.

As of 8am today, 124 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, 31 of whom are in ICU. There have been 15 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

As of Saturday, May 8, a total of 1,827,610 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Ireland:

- 1,327,821 people have received their first dose

- 499,789 people have received their second dose
