CDP set to go to publication

More than 60 individual submissions from local elected members were raked though in detail when the Chief Executive’s Draft Cavan County Development Plan 2022-2028 was considered by councillors at their May monthly meeting.

Last Monday’s virtually held meeting also considered six Material Amendments to what was initially proposed in a near 600-page document by council chief Tommy Ryan.

The last CDP expired in June 2020.

Councillors have, for the past number of weeks, had sight of the draft plan, which will incorporate a Local Area Plan for Cavan Town and its environs, and sets out the overall strategy and vision for the proper planning and sustainable development in the county over the coming six year period.

The CDP with further take into account the county’s place in the wider Northern and Western Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy, which outlines how Cavan Town performs a regional function, being the largest urban centre between Cavan, Monaghan and Leitrim.

Among the changes to the draft plan, which will formally go up for public consultation later this month, concern the protection of proposed corridors for the Virginia and Ballinagh bypass’, a concerted emphasis on sustainable tourism and development, and a demand that the council lead the way in terms of encouraging further economic investment in the county in the years to come.

See today's Celt for a detailed report on rezoning lands around Cavan Town and restricted development along the potential routes of the bypasses in Virginia and Ballinagh.
