Inspired to run!

A remarkable young man, Cormac Kelly from Ballyjamesduff ran 66 kilometres last Friday to raise money to purchase a life-saving defibrillator for the Inspire Day Care Service at Moynehall, where he works.

He set off on his run from Crosserlough at 5am and went to Virginia before running all the way back to Cavan Town, out the Belturbet bypass and back in past Cavan General Hospital before heading out the Ballinagh Road to finished up at the Backyard.

Cormac was given a Garda escort through Cavan Town. His father Martin Kelly followed Cormac along the entire route in a support van, so that Cormac could have a supply of water and food when he required it.

The nearest defibrillator to Moynehall is outside the Credit Union office in Cavan Town.

Speaking to the Celt, Cormac revealed that he was a runner when he was younger and took it up again just over two years ago. He completed the Dublin marathon in the past two years and also took part in some cross-country races.

"I like challenging myself outside my comfort zone and aiming to achieve goals that may appear out of reach," he said.

"I have been working now for two years with Inspire in Cavan. Inspire works with adults who have autism and other additional needs. They are together in the centre from Monday to Friday," he explained.

Cormac speaks really enthusiastically about his work there and describes it as "one of the best" places to work.
