Man rescued from Ballyconnell canal

The incident occurred at Woodford Park, Ballyconnell, Cavan this afternoon, Saturday, May 15.

Tragedy was averted after a man was rescued by members of the public after entering the canal at Ballyconnell.

The male, aged in his 50’s, was pulled from the water at Woodford Park by two passersby shortly after lunchtime today, Saturday, May 15.

Emergency services, including members of Ballyconnell Fire Brigade and members of An Garda Siochana attended the scene following the incident which occurred at around 1:30pm.

The man was rushed to Cavan General Hospital by ambulance for treatment, where the latest update is that he is expected to make a recovery.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana confirmed their involvement.

In a statement issued to The Anglo-Celt, they said: “A man was rescued from the canal at Woodford Park, Ballyconnell, Cavan this afternoon, Saturday, May 15, 2021, at approximately 1.30pm.

“Two passersby assisted the man to safety and he was removed to Cavan General Hospital for medical attention.”
