Neighbours help gardaí arrest three at scene of burglary

Gardaí have arrested three individuals following the burglary of a premises in Lisgrey.

Shortly after 5am this Wednesday morning May 19, gardaí responded to an alert from a personal pendant alarm, arising from a break in at this residence. On arrival Gardaí arrested a woman at the scene, and observed two men fleeing on foot from the area.

During the course of a pursuit these men stole a quad bike from another premises and attempted to flee on this.

Local residents assisted gardaí and with this help gardaí located the individuals involved and arrested two men.

Three individuals, one female in her 40s, and two men in their 30s are currently detained at Bailieboro Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Inspector Lionel Mullally of Bailieboro Garda Station said, "The activation of a pendant personal alarm and the assistance of local residents is what led to the quick response and these arrests today.

"It is a testament to the community here in Lisgrey that they were there to provide this assistance and came out in support of their neighbour. I’d like to compliment them for their actions this morning.

"An Garda Síochána would also like to remind the public that if they are interested in getting some personal safety advice or learning more about obtaining a personal pendant alarm, they can contact their local Garda station and An Garda Síochána will be happy to help,” he said.

Investigations are ongoing in relation to this matter.
