The current cathaoirleach, Cllr Sarah O'Reilly (Aontú).

Council to host physical AGM

The elected members of Cavan County Council will host their AGM in person next month (June 14) when a new Cathaoirleach will be nominated.

Three Fianna Fail councillors are in the running to succeed the outgoing First Citizen of the county, Aontú’s Sarah O’Reilly.

As per a stated agreement at the start of this current five-year council term Cllrs John Paul Feeley, Clifford Kelly and Philip Brady all stand a chance at landing the top job.

Cllr O’Reilly made history last year when she became the first of her party to hold the position nationally.

She topped the poll in the Bailieborough-Cootehill constituency in the 2019 local elections.

She left Fianna Fáil in a fall out with the party over the issue of abortion among others.

It was agreed that the AGM will take place at the Hotel Kilmore next month, but the duration of the gathering will be limited in line with Covid guidelines.
