Site adjacent to the Kilmore Business Park the council feel is “suitable” for bespoke enterprise development

Lands rezoned for potential enterprise investment

More than three-and-a-half acres outside of Cavan Town, opposite the Kilmore Business Park, has been rezoned by council members for 'General Enterprise and Employment'.

The triangular shaped site was proposed for development on foot of a material amendment put before elected members by the council's Chief Executive Tommy Ryan.

It was explained that the land would be suitable for potential “bespoke or high end employment” development.

A similar rezoning was proposed by Fianna Fáil's Aiden Fitzpatrick and unanimously approved.

The land just off the roundabout on the Ballyjamesduff road near Moynehall had been zoned previously the meeting was told.

The motion was seconded by Fine Gael's Carmel Brady, while senior planner Nicholas O'Kane responded by describing the site as “suitable” for such zoning.

A Chief Executive Material Amendment to a site on the outskirts of Virginia was also passed unanimously by members.

Mr O'Kane said a “mapping error” had zoned the lands Public and Community, and this needed to be changed to Enterprise and Employment as it would assist the growth and development of an existing business located on the site.

On the reverse, a site zoned as Enterprise and Employment in Cootehill was changed to Public and Community use after it was brought to the local authority's attention that the HSE is now operating from the location.

Separately, there were several motions proposed aimed at recognising the importance of major employers in respective areas in the CDP.

Cllr Feeley asked that Lakeland Dairies be given particular mention in the Killeshandra section of the CDP, seconded by party colleague Sean Smith.

Meanwhile Clifford Kelly (FF) asked that Kingscourt Bricks and Paramount Doors be provided the same recognition as Kingspan, O'Reilly Concrete and Gypsum Industries as being essential to the vitality of the east Cavan town.
