Council consider disabled parking space on Connolly Street

Council engineers will examine how to incorporate a disabled parking space beside the health centre at Connolly Street when planned resurfacing works take place later this year.

Fine Gael’s Peter McVitty acknowledged there is a parking space in the Egg Market carpark across the road, however he informed the virtually-held meeting of the Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District that the drop kerb opposite was often blocked by other vehicles.

“It’s a set down space, and the only dropped kerb in that area,” he outlined, arguing that a disabled space on the opposite side of the road, nearer to the health centre, would provide a solution.

“It’s a necessity,” agreed Fianna Fáil’s Patricia Walsh, who seconded the motion.

Fine Gael’s Madeleine Argue stated that it was an issue she had raised years before, and welcomed that it would be looked at again.

Senior engineer for the area, Paul Mulligan, said the council’s road design team would consider the “most appropriate” place to put the parking space.
