Almost €6k for local groups distributed in Cav-Belturbet

Grants of between €400 and €1,000 have been distributed to local community organisations operating in the wider Cavan Belturbet area and the west of the county.

Coiste Bhreifne Ui Raghaillaigh Cavan GAA received the largest sum allocated under the Discretionary Grants Scheme awarded by members elected to the local Municipal District.

The €1,000 will be used by the club to purchase a touch screen monitor and fund its installation as part of the development of a new permanent exhibition space at Kingspan Breffni Park. The monitor will be used to enable the use of recorded GAA archives from the new proposed museum.

Grants of €500 each have been allocated to Oakmanor Residents Association in Latt to replant shrubs and lay decorative stone on existing flower beds; for a new fence, hedge cutter and road safety signage at Highfield Road; and to clean away scrub and plant wildflowers and herbs as well as pollinating species at Creighan Manor.

Cuan Cavan Cancer Support Centre in Cavan also received €500 to provide equipment for play therapy and install a printer and telephone system; Killeshandra Community Council Ltd were awarded €500 to buy a floor buffer for the local centre floors; and a further €500 to Killeshandra Tidy Towns to replace seating, picnic tables and planters in the town and at the Town Lake.

Others to receive €500 are Swanlinbar Development Association to replace blinds at Trivia House; and Glangevlin Community Development to refill community planters and install an ornamental feature in the village.

The remaining allocations, of €400 each, went to Killeshandra Community Garden Club to replace timber surrounds on existing raised beds, and to the Oriel Lodge Residents Association in Belturbet to provide window boxes and hanging baskets.
