County Council to buy pub

Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor Sarah O’Reilly, has welcomed the purchase which will make way for new Bailieborough town carpark.

Cavan County Council is to buy a pub in Bailieborough.

However, the moved is less about pints and more about quenching the need for additional parking in the east county town.

Contracts have been signed to purchase the former Town and Country Pub which is located on Bailieborough's Main Street.

The purchase of the landmark property will allow for the future expansion of the public car park to the rear of the building, creating the potential for future strategic revitalisation of the town core.

Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor Sarah O’Reilly, has welcomed the purchase.

Cllr O'Reilly, who will step down as the county's first citizen at the Council's AGM on Monday, described the deal as “statement of intent” by the Council with regard to future development of the town.

“The purchase of the strategic town centre property will play a part in the sustainable growth of Bailieborough Town, which will ensure its future as a dynamic and thriving urban centre,” stated the Aontú elected representative.

She added that the development will ensure "quick and easy access" to the town carpark and furthermore assist the progression of the town's Masterplan.

“There has been a long time pause in further development of the back lands area in the Bailieborough town - this is a serious effort by Cavan County Council to help resolve some of the issues and offers an opportunity for the businesses to improve access and parking in the area.”
