Mainly dry with hazy sunny spells today

A good deal of dry weather is forecast by Met Éireann over the coming days, with a mix of scattered showers and sunny spells. The showers mostly in the west, with eastern areas mostly dry. The national weather forecaster says conditions will become more unsettled next weekend with rain at times.

Mainly dry with hazy sunny spells developing today, with a few showers in the west and northwest. The best of the sunshine will be over the southern half of the country. Less humid and not as warm as previous days with highs of just 14 degrees under cloud in the northwest, to 19 degrees in the southeast. Moderate west to northwest winds, fresher in the north.

Dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells tonight. Cloud will thicken in the west towards morning. Winds will generally be light, but southerly winds will freshen on western coasts by dawn. A cool night with lows of 5 to 8 degrees, with some mist patches forming.

The midlands, east and south will be mainly dry tomorrow (Tuesday), with some sunny spells and it will be warm and humid here, with maximum temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees. The southwest, west and north will be cooler and cloudy, with rain and drizzle here for much of the day, which will edge eastwards later. A breezy day, with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds, strong on coasts.

Rain and drizzle will gradually extend eastwards on Tuesday night and become lighter and patchier as it does so. Eastern counties will see very little in the way of rain. A clearance will spread from the west later in the night. Lows of 9 to 12 degrees, in moderate southwesterly winds.

A mix of cloud and sunny spells are forecas on Wednesday with scattered showers. The showers mostly over the western half of the country with eastern counties holding mainly dry. Cool in the west with highs of 14 to 16 degrees, milder elsewhere with highs of 16 to 19 degrees, in moderate southwesterly winds, easing later.

Thursday will see another day of sunny spells and scattered showers, the showers again mostly over the western half of the country. Highs of 15 to 18 degrees, in a light northwest breeze.

A mostly dry day is promised for Friday with just a few passing showers. It will be rather cloudy, but winds will be light so it will feel quite pleasant in any sunny spells. Highs of 14 to 17 degrees.

NEXT WEEKEND: Rain will likely push in from the west through Saturday, with further rain at times for all areas on Saturday night and Sunday. Breezy at times too with temperatures slightly below average for June.
