Covid vaccination clinics to continue for children

COVID-19 vaccination clinics for children aged 6 months to 4 years and 5 to 11 years will be held in Cavan Monaghan this month.

COVID-19 clinics will take place in Cavan Monaghan Covid Vaccination Base, St. Davnet’s Campus, Monaghan on Friday, July 14 from 10am-12pm - clinics open those aged 6 months to 4 Years; and 12-2pm- clinics open to 5 years to 11 years.

The National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) recommend that children aged six months to four years who have a health condition that puts them at high risk of severe illness if they get COVID-19 should get vaccinated.

In addition, NIAC advises that the benefits of vaccination are greater than the risks from the vaccine in this age-group, meaning that all children in this age-group can be offered the vaccine. The benefits include avoiding getting COVID-19, and extra protection from the rare risks of serious illness from COVID-19.

This age-group need three doses of the vaccine for the best possible protection against COVID-19. Your child will get their second dose three weeks after the first dose, followed by a third dose eight weeks after the second dose.

NIAC also recommends COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years who: have a health condition that puts them at high risk of severe illness if they get COVID-19; live with a younger child with complex medical needs; live with an adult who is immunocompromised

In addition, NIAC advises that COVID-19 vaccination should be offered to all other children aged 5 to 11 years because of the favourable risk benefit profile of the vaccine, to protect them from severe disease and the consequences that can follow infection

This age-group need two doses of the vaccine for the best possible protection against COVID-19. Your child will get their second dose eight weeks after the first dose.
