Cloudy but warm day ahead

Spells of sunshine are expected to develop in many areas across the country following a relatively bleak start to the day with heavy cloud cover.

While it is to remain “cloudier” in northern and northwestern areas throughout Wednesday, Met Eireann forecast, maximum afternoon temperatures will generally range to a fresh 16 to 19 degrees.

“Today will be warm and dry with light northerly winds. Spells of sunshine will develop through the morning, becoming sunny in most areas by the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 19 to 21 degrees over most of Ulster. Slightly cooler in west Ulster and along northern coasts due to onshore breezes, with highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees.”

Tonight therefore will be “dry and largely clear” with just isolated showers settling in. Mist and fog will form towards dawn with winds near calm.

That mist and fog will clear on Thursday to leave a mostly dry day with a mix of cloud and hazy sunshine.

Winds will be light and variable inland but sea breezes will develop in coastal areas.
