Cavan Belturbet MD elect new chair

Cllr Madeline Argue took over in the role of Chairperson of the Cavan Belturbet Municipal District at the AGM of the MD in the Council Chamber in the Courthouse Cavan today [Friday July 16].

Cllr Argue was proposed for the position by Cllr Peter McVitty and seconded by Cllr Patricia Walsh. Cllr Walsh will assume the role of Vice Chairperson for the next year.

Cllr Sean Smith congratulated the outgoing Independent Chair, Brendan Fay, for his dedication over the last year: “You did an excellent job Brendan, and you have always been very fair to every member here.”

New Cathaoirleach Madeline Argue thanked members for their vote of confidence in her and promised she would perform her duties to the very best of her ability. She pointed out that she held the position previously and thanked Cllr Fay for his “fair and courteous manner” while performed his duties: “We are all working in harmony here and we want the best for our county”. She also thanked the media for highlighting the issues discussed at their meetings.”

Cathaoirleach Argue thanked the Executive for for being so helpful in dealing with the issues that are raised in the chamber by the members.

Director of Services, Brendan Jennings congratulated Cathaoirleach Argue on assuming the role and also congratulated Cllr Fay on what he termed “his very strong year” for him in the Chair, and “your handled the year extremely well Cllr Fay”.

He stressed that it is a good grouping to work with and “always positive and endeavouring to move the District forward, for the benefit of everybody, which is good to see

Cllr Fay said it had been an honour for him the serve as Chairperson for the past year and he thanked all the members and the Executive for their co-operation and help along the way.

He added that it was an unusual year to be in the Chair during the Covid Lockdown. “All the staff in Cavan County Council have been courteous and fantastic to me as I sought to have the various issues on my agenda addressed”.
