Planners set to decide on forest development

Cavan County Council is set to make a decision on the expansion of the Cavan tourism project Cabü by the Lake.

Last March, the Cavan holiday park lodged a planning application to construct 15 holiday chalets.

Cabü by the Lakes, at Killykeen, plan to erect seven detached, storey and a half-style, barn houses and eight semi-detached single storey cabins.

In 2017, Killykeen Forest Holidays Ltd purchased the holiday village and invested close to €5m in upgrading the existing 28 holiday cabins within the 75-acre park site.

Since then, Killykeen Forest Holidays Ltd has successfully transformed the former equestrian centre into rustic, yet state-of-the-art guest accommodation.

The latest application is to build 15 more units.

A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) will be submitted to the planning authority with this application, which is due for decision.

The park currently has 28 holiday homes, and the new cabins would be able to accommodate up to 74 additional visitors at any one time.
