Cavan goes live this weekend

An array of live events have been organised for Cavan Town in association with the ‘Streets Ahead’ programme.

The weekend will see Fanzini Production’s street theatre in Market Square, along with Cavan Town Comhaltas playing this Saturday from 7-9pm.

On Sunday ‘Nyah’ Comhaltas led by accordion maestro Martin Donohoe and Friends will play from 5-7pm.

Clerical Officer Narissa Cosgrove from the Cavan Arts Office predicted the events would “bring a lovely atmosphere to Cavan Town” while people are enjoying the new traffic-free streets.

“These are going to be free events,” Narissa encouraged, explaining they have been funded by the Local Live Performance Scheme.

“That’s what we’re using to bring a bit of vibrancy back into Cavan Town.”

She said she hopes the events will “create confidence” among people that the county town is a safe and enjoyable environment.

High Stool Prophets

Ticketed events will take place at the Abbeylands the following weekend.

The High Stool Prophets will play on Saturday August 7, with the Songsisters, Twisted Ninja, Shane McCluskey and Grainne Smith, Blutack and The Greenhorns and Kathy Durkin and Friends on the Sunday.

Tickets will be available on August 3 from 10am on www.cavanarts.ie

“We have been so deprived of music and live events for so long.

“I think it will be really beneficial to build a bit of confidence,” commented Narissa.

She urged people to “come into town and grab a bite to eat” in the local restaurants and cafés before savouring the live performances.

“I think it will be lovely to come back in and just enjoy the space again,” she concluded.
