Learn on the job with a traineeship from CMETB

Your Future our Focus - Choosing a career is one of the most important and difficult decisions you will make in life. It’s about so much more than what you will earn, following in someone else’s footsteps or listening to what others want you to do. Approximately 71% of time every year will be spent at work, selecting a career in which you are satisfied is so important and cannot be underestimated.

You may be at a point in your life where you are:

- Finishing school;

- Finishing college;

- An adult returning

to education;

- An adult changing job/career wanting to upskill or reskill.

The career choice you make will impact on you for years to come. With so many different courses options, how will you choose a course for the career that’s right for you? Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) want to help you made that decision.

Kick start your Career with a Traineeship programme. A Traineeship combines learning in the classroom and experience in the workplace to improve employment outcomes for participants and increase retention and productivity in the sector. Traineeships are an education route where a minimum of 30% is on the job. Traineeships comprise QQI qualifications varying between Levels 4 – 6 as well as additional industry certifications, have no course fees and are between 6-18 months in duration.

Many students come out of college and are as confused about their career direction and job prospects after graduation. It is simply not true that a degree is the only route to a career or employment, or that a degree is more attractive to employers over alternative qualifications and experience. There are many qualification options and routes to get the career you want.

Michelle Baker, recruitment officer for CMETB, noted: “A college course is not the only way to become qualified. The delivery method of a traineeship means individuals can achieve a relevant qualification whilst gaining valuable work experience.

“So many individuals complete a three or four year degree, get into debt and do not have the work experience to support their academic qualification. Going to college will cost an average of €12,000 per year. With most courses taking three years, that’s a saving of €36,000 by choosing a Traineeship programme.

“To have this fully funded programme (Funded through European Social Fund), offering both recognised qualifications and relevant work experience available locally is an amazing opportunity”.

CMETB are enrolling for the 2021 Traineeship intake and are hosting an information session on Tuesday, August 10, in Cavan Crystal from 10am or Thursday, August 12, in Four Seasons Hotel - Monaghan from 10am.

CMETB have a number of Traineeships across a range of sectors choose, which are all fully funded through the European Social Fund.
