Almost 900 attend ‘walk-in’ Covid vaccine clinic

A total of 899 people walked into the Cavan Covid Vaccination Centre over the bank holiday weekend, without an appointment, and received their first dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

From Saturday, July 31 to Monday, August 2 (inclusive), staff at the centre were facilitating walk-ins within a four-hour window daily, between the hours of 8:30am to 12:30pm.

The opportunity for walk-in vaccines was also presented in the Monaghan Vaccination Centre at the Glencarn Hotel, Castleblayney, where 490 people presented for their first jab. The jabs were available to all over 16s who presented with proof of ID and their PPS number.

Following the success of the initiative, it’s expected more walk-in clinics will be facilitated in the near future.

Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD, Brendan Smith, has welcomed the news as a significant roll-out of the vaccination programme in Ireland.

“I compliment all personnel involved in the successful roll-out of the vaccination programme, which is absolutely essential to deal with the Covid pandemic,” he said.

The portal for Over 16s to register for their vaccine is now open.
