Cavan set to rock to live music

Over the next three weekends Cavan Arts in conjunction with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and the Cavan County Council present a series of concerts as part of the piloted pedestrianised “Streets Ahead Cavan” scheme.

This Saturday, August 7, at 8pm to 10pm in the Abbeylands The Highstool Prophets will take to the stage. On Sunday, August 8, from 6pm to 8pm also in Abbeylands the Songsisters and band will present an eclectic range of tunes from Stevie Wonder to Fleetwood Mac.

Next weekend on Saturday August 14 Abbeylands will again be the venue, this time for Twisted Ninja. Twisted Ninja are a four piece, fully live party band, playing tunes from Abba to ZZ Top and everything in between.

Then on Sunday August 15 Shane McCluskey and Grainne Smith are the draw. From Bailieboro, Shane has been gaining much notoriety of late as a solo artist and entertainer, offering a modern blend of Irish and Celtic folk music. From neighbouring Kingscourt, Grainne is an award winning musician who has toured globally with various Irish dance and music shows and has appeared regularly on TG4 and Fleadh TV.

On Saturday August 21, Blutack & The Greenhorns will grill some natural disco and jazz for five minutes on each side while steaming some lycra tight horn chops before mixing in an organic rhythm section that's right on the money. Season with some bluesy rock before serving with some fresh lemongrass vocals.

Rounding out the august August programme on Sunday 22 is Kathy Durkin & Friends.

This is a continuation of the trial weekend initiative that will see Cavan town’s main thoroughfare temporarily transformed into a pedestrian-friendly zone.

The ‘Streets Ahead Cavan’ pilot pedestrianisation scheme will make two stretches of streetscape free of traffic from 7pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday evenings and from 3pm to 9pm.

The 'Streets Ahead Cavan' pilot pedestrianisation scheme has been developed in consultation with local businesses. It aims to build confidence in the town centres as our society moves ahead with the re-opening of the hospitality sector.

This is a ticket only Local Live Performances and will be from the Historic Abbey Grounds in the heart of Cavan Town. Audio from these concerts will be streamed throughout the town’s PA system in order that it can be enjoyed by patrons across the pedestrianised zones without the need for large congregations.

Tickets for these events will be released on the Tuesday before each live weekend event via Townhall Cavan's booking website : https://townhallcavan.ticketsolve.com/shows

All events will be in strict adherence to Government Covid 19 guidelines.
