Downpour causes landslide in west Cavan

Today's torrential rain has caused trouble for motorists in West Cavan.

Cavan County Council warned that "exceptionally heavy rainfall" caused a landslide which blocked a section of the R200 at Bellavally, and it would be closed until further notice, with local diversions in place.

Cllr John Paul Feeley advises that the R200 at Bealbally "is now passable with caution!"

The Fianna Fáil councillor also reports that the N87 at Borrim near Swanlinbar is currently flooded. "Given recent heavy rainfall & the current forecast the chances of flash flooding is high", said Cllr Feeley. "Drive with care!"
