Details of Leona's reception

All of Cavan is looking forward to welcoming home golfing superstar Leona Magure after her impressive contribution to the European Team's win over the US in Ohio at the weekend.

Leona will have a reception held for her in the Slieve Russell this evening. The hotel Resort posted on their Facebook platform about the event saying: “People of Cavan and further afield. We are delighted to announce an outdoor homecoming celebration to welcome home our Solheim Cup hero Leona Maguire.”

The reception will take place outdoors on the front lawn and it's understood Leona will speak from the front steps of the Hotel.

The post concluded by saying: “Please bring all your Cavan/Ireland flags and let’s give this girl the welcome she truly deserve.”

Management have confirmed that the event will start at around 6:15pm with broadcaster Joe Finnegan acting as the master of ceremonies.

As the county prepares to welcome the golfing hero home one local elected representative is hoping there will be a more formal recognition of the Ballyconnell lady's achievement. Cllr John Paul Feeley has written to the local authority Chairman to lobby for a Civic Reception for Leona.

“Over recent days we have had the joy of witnessing one of our own represent our County, Country and Europe taking on the US and star in winning the Solheim Cup,” the Fianna Fáil councillor said in the letter.

He continued: “This follows her representing us in the Tokyo Olympics. These latest successes are testament to her talent and the support she has received over the years from her parents, her family and the Slieve Russell Golf Club and all who have worked with her along the way.”

Cllr Feeley concluded by saying: “I believe it is right and proper that Cavan County Council confer a Civic Reception on Leona as soon as possible and I thank you for the necessary arrangements”
