Local firm celebrates first international order

Moran's Mega Jam, with the assistance of the Local Enterprise Office, recently secured a new base of operations within the Kilmore Business Park.

A local food company has just celebrated completing their first international food order.

Moran's Mega Jam recently shipped off more than a dozen boxes of their jams, marmalades, and sauces to Australia.

“We're absolutely chuffed,” proprietor Kieron Moran, who runs the local business with wife Claire, told The Anglo-Celt this week.

The shipment is big news for the Cavan business who secured a distributor for their products halfway around the world, and is a major expansion for yet another local brand outside of Irish shores.

Included in the delivery destined of Oz were gift bags, Moran's celebrated Blackcurrant and Guinness jam, their award-winning Whiskey Marmalade, Red Onion Marmalade, and two of the business' newest products- Garlic Mayo and Taco Sauce.

Founded by Kieron and Claire in 2010, MMJ is a prominent member of the SuperValu Food Academy, as well as being an exhibitor at Taste of Cavan for many years.

The business, with the assistance of the Local Enterprise Office, recently secured a new base of operations within the Kilmore Business Park, moving in 2020.

It followed a turbulent year for MMJ, like many other firms, following the forced shutdown of businesses across the country due to Covid.

“Last year was a nightmare for us,” remembers Kieron, with MMJ suffering as a knock-on effect from when Covid and lockdown forced the shutdown of shops and guest houses nationally.

But Kieron happily reports that “things are picking up”, and praises the support of the LEO in helping facilitate their move to newer premises which he hopes will allow the MMJ grow even further in the future.

“It's great to see things are picking up again. A lot of businesses were hit really hard the past year, so it's good that business is beginning to move in the right direction,” says Kieron who hopes the shipment to Australia will be the first of many to come.
