N55 project to progress this month

It's the latest phase of upgrades on the busy route.

Cavan County Council hopes to open the tendering process for the latest phase of the N55 upgrade works shortly.

This is the final phase of the project, which will see the village of Killydoon bypassed by a new 3.7km section of road.

Work is ongoing on the project, with ground investigations and supplementary surveys complete and hedge clearing and the installation of fencing carried out.

Work diverting services is underway and the fieldwork for the archaeological services contract is nearing completion.

In a statement to The Anglo-Celt, the local authority said it hopes to seek approval from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to go to tender on the construction contract before the end of September.

It says, following this process, it’s hoped construction can begin early next year, pending a successful tendering process, approval of funding and the receipt of the necessary approvals.

Construction is expected to take two years to complete.

Work on the last phase of the upgrade, from Ballinagh to Ballytrust, was completed in late 2018.
