Clay club raises €4,000 for charity

The Cavan Clay Club has marked its second year with a €4,000 charity donation.

The club, set up by a number of locals interested in shooting, held a charity fundraiser in aid of Cavan-Monaghan Palliative Care.

A cheque for €4,081 was handed over to the charity recently.

“We formed the club last year,” says chairperson Alan Sexton.

“We used to all go shooting together.”

The club was set up solely for clay shooting and uses Alan’s land in Killinkere.

So far, it has 13 members.

“All the lads that are in it are interested in clay shooting,” says Alan. "It's not hunting guys that's involved, it's lads into clay."

Of the charity event, Alan says there was a good turnout and it shows in the money raised.

“There were 109 guns that were shot that day. We were out from 11 in the morning and stayed out all day”, he remarks.

“We’d like to thank everybody who supported and those who donated prizes too,” adds Alan.

It’s hoped more charity shoots can be held in the coming year.
