Rent bill for Cavan vaccination centre revealed

Over €290,000 has been spent renting space for Cavan’s COVID-19 vaccine centre. Based at the Country Club in the Hotel Kilmore, it has been up and running since April.

Figures released by the HSE show €291,200 has been paid in site rental costs between March and September. The cost is above the national average figure of €203,321.

Coupled with this is €156,000 in “site construction costs and equipment hire” over the same six-month period.

The centre at the Hotel Kilmore has 10 vaccine booths, with some others having up to 50. Booths are required to be approximately 4m wide x 2m deep x 2.5m high, requiring large spaces to be used for even the smallest vaccine centres.

A number of hotels have been used across the country, with the HSE also using its own facilities in some cases.

The HSE contract with the Hotel Kilmore was originally set to expire at the end of October. A spokesperson has confirmed to The Anglo-Celt that this has now been extended to the end of quarter one of next year.

Forty one vaccine centres were set up across the country, costing a total of €17,156,146. Over €8.3 million of this was paid in site rental costs.
