Motorists can save 17 cent per litre by shopping around
FUEL PRICE SURVEY
With fuel prices rising sharply in recent weeks, The Anglo-Celt can reveal that motorists can save up to 17 cent a litre on the price of diesel or petrol across County Cavan by shopping around.
Celt reporters covered the length and breadth of the county this morning checking prices at the pumps in the most comprehensive fuel survey ever undertaken by this newspaper. A number of other towns and villages outside the county were also visited (scroll down for the detailed list).
The cheapest diesel at the pumps in the county can be purchased at the Go filling stations in Bailieborough and Blacklion – where it was 147.9 cent per litre on Friday morning.
The most expensive Celt reporters found on the same day was in McConville's Circle K in Kingscourt and Great Gas in Mullagh where it was 164.9 cent per litre. The latter was also the most expensive outlet in the county for petrol at 174.9 cent per litre.
The cheapest petrol in the county among those surveyed was found at Go in Blacklion where it was 157.9c per litre. It could be purchased for the same price also in the Go filling stations in Bailieborough and Blacklion.
Even within the county town, there is quite a price differential at the pumps – with Jones' Oil the most competitive for diesel at 152.9c/l and Apple Green at Drumalee offering the cheapest petrol at 165.8c/l. The most expensive rate for diesel in Cavan Town is 162.9c/l while, for petrol, it's 171.9c/l.

Following last Tuesday's budget, the prices at the pumps crept even higher. The carbon tax was increased by a further €7.50, bringing it up to €41 per tonne of carbon for some fuels.
The increase meant that the price of filling a 60-litre tank of petrol increased by €1.28. A 60-litre fill of diesel rose by €1.48.
There is quite a significant tax take on the price motorists pay for petrol and diesel. A survey by AA Ireland of Irish fuel prices surveyed in September 2021 showed the average retail price per litre of fuel as follows.
The average retail pump price for petrol was 155.9c/l; while for diesel it was 144.9c/l
The price before all relevant taxes were added was 61.951c/l and 63.9287c/l.
