Funding boost for Drumgoon plans

An announcement was made yesterday.

Almost €27,000 has been announced for works at Drumgoon Hill Old Graveyard.

Over €700,000 in funding was announced yesterday as part of the Clár programme.

The Maintenance and Support Group in Drumgoon has been approved for €26,742 of that for upgrades at the well known and historic site.

It’s planned to provide parking facilities and improve access at the site in a bid to bring visitors, tourism and economic benefits to the local area.

The ancient graveyard and ringfort, which date back to pre-Christian times, have been the focus of local attention in recent years with hopes of improving facilities and increasing visitors.

18 projects across the country received funding under this round of the scheme.

Announcing the successful applicant, Rural and Community Development Minister Heather Humphreys said she was delighted for the successful groups.

“This is a measure that is designed to support innovative and bold ideas that will make a difference in communities across rural Ireland. The range of projects being awarded funding today shows the depth of talent, innovation and creativity that exists in rural Ireland. Harnessing this resource is a key element of the Government’s vision for rural Ireland as set out in Our Rural Future.”
