Mountnugent tractor run raises funds for cancer charity

They say “It takes a village” and the people in the village of Mountnugent fairly rose to occasion in a recent fundraiser for the Ballyjamesduff Cancer Support Fund.

Almost 200 tractors took part on the day, generating €5,491 for the local charity.

Evelyn Cosgrove is the chairperson of the Ballyjamesduff Cancer Support Fund. She expressed her gratitute to the people of Mountnugent for their efforts.

"This will go a long way towards allowing us to fulfil our objectives. It was a great family day out, and that fact that so many were involved showed those who have been affected, that their community was behind them to support and assist in a very practical way, to get through their ordeal, without being intrusive," she told the Celt.

Ballyjamesduff Cancer Support Fund was set up to assist patients in getting to their respective hospitals for treatment, by providing a private taxi service to take them to and from their appointments for chemotherapy and radium.

The Mountnugent community organised a follow-up fundraiser in recent weeks - a fancy dress pub crawl - which also has generated more than €1,000 for the charity.

"Sincere thanks to all involved," said Evelyn.
