Seasons greetings from Cllr Madeleine Argue

As 2021 come to a conclusion Cllr Madeleine Argue says there have been a number of local authority success in the last year that have counterbalanced the difficulties.

“It is important to focus on the positives,” Cllr Argue says. “Cavan County Council have done tremendous work for communities across Cavan and particularly in the Cavan Belturbet Municipal District. Projects like the Abbeylands Urban Regeneration Cavan Town and the Shannon Pot & Burren Phase 2 Fáilte Ireland plans will have a tremendous impact on this area. They are initiatives that will be of great benefit to the local communities.”

Cllr Argue says that plans for the Cavan Townhall Destination and outdoor performance project is another one that enhances the county town: “The Townhall is a wonderful asset. It brings people into the town, which is good for a number of businesses. The programmes of events they stage are of the highest standards. They recently staged the One Act Festival, which was brilliant. We had to wait two years because of restrictions to hold it, but when it returned it was a great celebration of drama.”

Cllr Argue says the Christmas decorations really show Cavan in a good light: “The Town Team have done a great job on making the town look festive. The lights are up and the new Christmas tree is up. A lot of the shops have gone great trouble to make there window look as seasonal as possible. It’s a great reflection on the town.”

Madeleine also points to the number of improvement to the infrastructure in the town: “We have overseen the installation of seating and awnings at the Market Square. The project was delivered by the Cavan Town Team in unison with Cavan County Council as one of a series of ongoing initiatives to enhance various areas in the county town. It makes it very welcoming, people can meet up and have a sit down in the open air with their friends. Perhaps get a tea or a coffee from one of the many cafés in the area. ”

Cllr Argue concluded by offering the people of Cavan seasons greetings: “I want extend best wished to everyone across the county for a healthy and safe Christmas, and I ma looking forward to seeing everyone in the New Year.”
