It is with regret that we note the following deaths in our community over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie
Virginia (Jean) Douglas
Virginia Primary Care Centre and formerly of Ballyjamesduff Rd, Virginia, Cavan
Virginia Douglas (Jean) and fondly called Deno, Primary Care Nursing Home and formerly of Ballyjamesduff Rd., Virginia, Co. Cavan Tuesday 14th December 2021, peacefully in the loving care of her family and staff of the nursing home in her 102nd year. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Robine, sister Kathleen Notley, brothers John and Dessie. Very sadly missed by her nieces Sandra and Valerie, nephews Douglas, Thomas, David, Richard and Charlie, grand and great-grand nephews and nieces, family, extended family and friends.
Resting at Mathews Funeral Home, Bailieborough Rd., Virginia, Wednesday evening from 6.00pm to 7.30pm for walk through sympathising only. Funeral Service on Thursday at 2.00pm in Virginia Parish Church of Ireland. Burial afterwards in the adjoining Churchyard. No flowers please, donations in lieu would be appreciated to the Primary Care Centre, Virginia, in care of Freddie Kettyle, Funeral Director or Archdeacon Craig McCauley.
The family would like to thank all the staff of Virginia Primary Care Centre for the wonderful care given to Deno.
Government and HSE Covid advise will apply, with no hugs or handshakes, masks to be worn and social distancing to be observed. The family thank you for your co-operation, understanding and patience at this difficult time.

Thomas "Tommy" Halpin, "Halfpenny", Nolagh, Shercock, Co. Cavan, Died 14th Dec 2021, peacefully, at his residence. Predeceased by his wife Margaret. Deeply regretted by his sons Peter, Thomas and John Paul, brother Peter, sisters Anna, Maggie and Alice, daughters in law Raj and Charlene, grandchild Tomas Rian, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews and extended family, neighbours and friends.
May He Rest in Peace.
Reposing at his residence until removal Friday morning at 10.30am, via Kingscourt road, Main Street and Anne Street, to arrive at St Anne's Church, Bailieborough, for funeral Mass at 11am. ALICE HUGHES (née CONLON)
Glassleck, Shercock, Cavan
Suddenly at her residence. Predeceased by her husband James,her parents, Patrick and Alice. Sadly missed and remembered with love by her sons, Gerry, Sean, Ciaran and Martin, daughters-in-law, Margeret, Madeline and Orla and Ciaran's partner, Majella, her adored grandchildren, her sisters, Mary Mc Enaney, Elizabeth Ruxton, Kathleen Mc Nally, Patricia Brady and Eileen Mc Donald, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, family, neighbours and friends.
Rest in Peace.
Funeral Mass on Thursday morning at 11 o'clock in St Anne's Church, Killan. Burial afterwards in St Patrick's Cemetery, Shercock. Due to restrictions Alice's wake and funeral will be limited to family and friends. People are asked to wear face masks and adhere to social distancing.
Sheila Callaghan (née Carry)
Ardee Road, Carrickmacross, Monaghan
The death has occurred of Sheila Callaghan (née Carry). Ardee Road, Carrickmacross. 13th December 2021. Peacefully at her home surrounded by her beloved family. Predeceased by her parents Thomas & Molly and her sisters Ann, Peggy & Mary. Sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, her cherished husband Gerry, her daughters Lorraine & Anita (Ruddy), her sons Dermot & Kenny, her son-in-law Eamon, daughters-in-law Barbara & Fiona, her adored grandchildren Sean, Harry, Kate, Tadhg, Moya, Muireann, Niamh, Eimear & Conor, her sisters Kathleen, Rosie & Bridie and her brothers Paddy & Thomas, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Sheila will repose at Lonergan Funeral Directors Funeral Home, Main Street, Carrickmacross, A81 D 328, on Thursday, 16th December from 6pm until 8pm. Please adhere to continued HSE & government guidelines, wear face coverings & observe social distancing.
Sheila's funeral cortège will leave her home, Ardee Road, on Friday, 17th December, at 10:30am, proceeding on foot to St. Joseph's Church, Carrickmacross, for Funeral Mass at 11am followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Carrickmacross.
